Speaking of revolutions…

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

I’ve been waiting to see if Texture was going to fill in the gaps on this great song he’s got going, but you know, unfinished songs are one of the best things about Splice, so we’re going to go ahead and blog it anyway. He’s got some other parts listed in there that weren’t actually used, so maybe this is a prime time for some of you to go in there and round it out.

Luna Muerta

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

Antti, our resident artist and all around cool guy, put up a vocal track a few months ago of his friend Tali singing Luna Muerta. It’s very pretty and has been kind of floating around the site for a while now.

Today, I was browsing around the site and found this amazing remix by airtone:

You MUST listen to it. It’s beautiful! Without a doubt, one of the best things I’ve heard from Splice in a while. It’s a perfect example of how one person can inspire another to take something pretty and really make it shine.

I think I’m going to listen to it about 5000 times. You should, too.

Six Oh Seven

I had to write to turn you guys onto one of our newest users - 607. He’s been rapping forever - I think he’s on his 25th album now! Not only should you check him out, you should remix him! He’s agreed to post some of his a cappellas on Splice for you, starting with this one here:

We’re waiting to hear what you do with it. There’s more coming really soon, but if you want to check out some of his other works in the meantime, try his myspace page: myspace.com/607.

If you’re a musician who’d like me to post some of your Splice contributions here in the blog, just let me know! My email is amiee@splicemusic.com, and I’d love to promote you.

Ping Pong!

We love how singlemalt proves with this song that yes, anything can be used to make a beat.

Of Farewell

Don’t miss this lovely spoken word ambient track by fenix - it’s so soothing! I especially love the echo effect she’s gotten by layering two vocal tracks a few moments apart.

Have you got some rhymes?

Why not stick them over this great song? There is exactly one track left open for you.

edit: oh look, someone already has. Turns out there’s a msvybe rap that fits in perfectly with this. Listen:

Some happiness for your ears.

I had to share this happy little song that pengus put together. It makes me smile:

And here is one by yours truly, of the infamous msvybe, who has been a major voice on Splice since the beginning:

And last, try this little treat here… phantasmagoricalchild (say THAT six times fast!) has whipped up something unlike anything I’ve heard on Splice so far:

If you’ve got a song you’d like featured on the blog, be it yours or someone else’s, drop me a line and let me know!

It IS fun to make muuusic.

We’ve got to hand it to fartlord: even though Return of the Jelly Donut didn’t receive it’s deserved critcal acclaim, he never gives up. Instead, he just hits harder, coming back at us with this lovely new Splice-themed song. Be warned: It’s catchy!

If you thought that was fun, you might also look into his Splice is Nice (Heavy on the Techno) remix, or make your own!

What if we were faced with a new medium?

We all know I love to extoll the virtues of Creative Commons and what happens when you allow people to embrace and enhance your work. But just in case you suspect I have ulterior motives for doing so, I would like to introduce you to commonsplice. If you go check out his profile, there is a GREAT video in there about his experiences with sharing his music via Creative Commons licenses. You might actually recognize his voice - I uploaded a sample of his ages ago, in which he says, “99% of us is noise”, which has been added to quite a few mixes on Splice. I made this song out of it:

Maybe you’ve got something to add to it? I think that when you have a bevy of creative people actively sharing their creations, you really do get some amazing results from it. Come on in and play!!

Rolling right along…

Those of you looking for some fun guitar riffs should check out Splice user dicet, who has been supplying us with plenty. Take a listen to his song happy feetz to see what I mean:

spanwayhits has been making some fun songs, too. We especially liked this one, and not just because of it’s awesome title:

If you haven’t had a chance to listen to the stuff coming from october yet, I would have to highly recommend doing so. He’s got some great sounds (even some from freesound) and even blogged us (twice) recently. Thanks for the love! Try this one on for size - it’s awesome:
