Never underestimate the power of a woman and a guitar.

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

Someone just sent me this AMAZING performance by KT Tunstall at Taratata, and I had to share it with you. If you watch what she’s doing, you’ll see that she starts out by creating loops of sound live on stage, which she then keeps playing continuously underneath her while she sings. I really love making music this way myself - I usually just hit the loop region on my program and sing over myself again and again until I have a musical painting that appeals to me. But live on stage?? Punk rock.

Sharing is good.

I happened on this short stop-motion pac-man video today that uses a beat from Splice. It’s cute - look:

Yay for finding Splice music randomly about the internet. I love that.

Ode to a Naughty Dog

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

I couldn’t let the day go by without mentioning the new song by groovebox, called Carpet Bomber. I have a dog that’s been known to bomb a few carpets in his day, so I really got a good laugh out of it. So, here is Grrrrrshwin - my favorite little fuzzball on the planet - and here is a song that’s for the dogs.

Contest Winner: Guitar God

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

We had some GREAT entries for this contest, just like always. However, one submission really stood out as something even Nigel Tufnel would be proud of. We present to you the greatest Splice guitar solo to date and the winner of our Guitar God contest, didhereallysay [cue wild applause]:

I mean, if THAT doesn’t scream ‘I ROCK OUT IN MY LIVING ROOM’, we don’t know what does. Altec Lansing is going to be sending didhereallysay an FX5051 Surround Sound System, and we sure hope it gets cranked to eleven.

Congrats!

Weekly Contest: Remix Anonymix

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

anonymix.jpg

Ever since I first saw the smiley icon in their profile, anonymix has had a place as one of my favorite Splicers. Here, I’ll show you why - try this song that he made after being inspired by a loop that spanish DJ and producer Rec_Overflow had posted to Splice:

We like Rec_Overflow. You can check out more of his stuff at his myspace page.

We like anonymix, too, which is why we’re having a contest just to remix him. Here are the rules:

1. Use any sound made by anonymix in a song.
2. Tag your song REMIXANONYMIX to be entered. (Spelling counts! Double check it!)

That’s it! The winner will get a rockin’ M602 powered audio system from Altec Lansing along with everlasting Splice fame. Entries are due in by Midnight CST on Monday, April 15th. (We’ve extended the deadline.)
