Antti, our resident artist and all around cool guy, put up a vocal track a few months ago of his friend Tali singing Luna Muerta. It’s very pretty and has been kind of floating around the site for a while now.
Today, I was browsing around the site and found this amazing remix by airtone:
You MUST listen to it. It’s beautiful! Without a doubt, one of the best things I’ve heard from Splice in a while. It’s a perfect example of how one person can inspire another to take something pretty and really make it shine.
I think I’m going to listen to it about 5000 times. You should, too.
Thaumata here on prize patrol. Have you heard that Altec Lansing has sent me some awesome prizes for our ongoing weekly contests? Last week, we remixed Rig and gave away a really cool stereo for your iPod. This week, it’s a surround sound system! That’s right - win the contest, crank up the Splice and share the love with your neighbors. Come read all about it here in the blog, but be quick! The current contest is over on Monday, February 5th!
We’re doing it again! That’s right - another contest with another great prize! This week, we’re going to honor fartlord who has been an active site member and beta tester for us for a while now. He’s been out to win that grammy award and we’re here to cheer him on.
He recently showed me a song he made called Splice is Nice. Check it out while you read, but be warned that it’ll stick in your head:
We love this song. I have it on our myspace page and every time it plays, anyone in my office finds themselves singing it all day long.SO! Here are the rules for this one:1. Make any song that uses a loop that says, “Splice is Nice!” It can be one of Fartlord’s loops, or if you can make your own, if you’re so inclined.
2. Tag your sumbission with SPLICEISNICE.
3. Get it played!! The person with the most plays on their song this week will win our prize!
I asked last week’s winner, phatasmagoricalchild, what the secret was to getting so many plays. I was told that the trick is to post the player with your song on it into your friend’s myspace comments, and ask them if they’ll pass it along for you. This is fair game! It’s a great way to get the word out and have others hear your music.
On to the goodies! Altec Lansing is kindly sponsoring us again, this week with a VS3251 Surround Sound System! (All at once now: ooooooooooOOOooOooooh!) That’s right - win the contest, crank up the Splice and share the love with your neighbors.
All entries must be posted by Monday, February 5th, at midnight CST. Winner will be announced right here. Good luck!
I had to write to turn you guys onto one of our newest users - 607. He’s been rapping forever - I think he’s on his 25th album now! Not only should you check him out, you should remix him! He’s agreed to post some of his a cappellas on Splice for you, starting with this one here:
We’re waiting to hear what you do with it. There’s more coming really soon, but if you want to check out some of his other works in the meantime, try his myspace page: myspace.com/607.
If you’re a musician who’d like me to post some of your Splice contributions here in the blog, just let me know! My email is amiee@splicemusic.com, and I’d love to promote you.
This week’s Remix Rig contest is over, and we had some GREAT entries! (It’s hard not to build something beautiful when Rig is supplying the building blocks, you know?) Judging for this contest was based on how many plays you got on your entry, and so, without further ado, our winner! Phantasmagoricalchild got an astounding 2537 plays on this song - above and beyond any other entry, by far, and will be getting a shiny new Altec Lansing IM inMotion 7 in the mail. Great work! Great song, too:
Our runners up were pretty fabulous, also:
Well, Rig isn’t technically allowed to enter this contest, but we laughed along with him when he submitted an entry anyway, and thought you might, also:
Thanks to everyone who entered, and especially thanks to Rig for sharing his work so freely. Stay tuned - the next contest is coming right up!
Every week, starting today, we’re giving away a great prize from Altec Lansing to the winner of our weekly contest! We’re going to kick off with the sweet inMotion7 - the ultimate portable audio system for all dockable iPods!
This week, January 15th to January 21st, 2007, we’re going to warm you up by Remixing Rig. That’s right - Everyone’s favorite Splicer has enthusiastically agreed to be our first sonic victim. Here is how it works:
1. Simply make a song using one of Rig’s sounds. (You can find them in his profile.)
2. TAG YOUR SONG with remixrig to enter the contest.
3. Get it played! This contest is based on how many times your song has been played, so start linking!
Did you know you can easily put your song in your MySpace page? Just open your song, copy the code at the bottom where it says Player Tag and paste it. If you want to get really fancy, hit Use AutoPlay - this means that every time someone goes to your page, the song will play automatically! What a great way to rack up some spins! The comment box will work in your main profile, your blog, your favorites and even in comments you leave to your friends.
Remix Rig is this week only, so get to it and get the word out! Winner will be announced a week from today!
Don’t miss this lovely spoken word ambient track by fenix - it’s so soothing! I especially love the echo effect she’s gotten by layering two vocal tracks a few moments apart.
